Freddy Krueger's Looks Changes In The Movies

Freddy Krueger's Looks Changes

Who doesn't know Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), a masterpiece of Wes Craven? Which his fingers are razors! Isn't this starring Johnny Depp? Shush ... that's Edward Scissorhands movie ... it's different! But, (the young) Johnny Depp also played in this movie.

Freddy Krueger is the son of a nurse who was raped by so many criminals during his social visit to a prison. Tragic indeed. Yes, every horror movie mostly has a tragic element as the background story. Since childhood, Freddy has been sadistic, for example, smashing a hamster into a pulp. He used to be mocked as "the son of a thousand maniac" with lullaby-style songs.

His appearance on the big screen began when A Nightmare on Elm Street was released in 1984. This unique character of Freddy immediately stole the heart of many hardcore fans. Even being nominated for the best horror movie.

I first knew Freddy from Fangoria magazine.

What makes Freddy cool besides his razor-sharp claws? Freddy can kill people when people are asleep ... even when the brain is in the "idle" phase. Freddy is really creative in slaughtering his victims. With additional of a bit of cringy dark humor.

Freddy also didn't die, because Freddy wasn't living in this nature. Freddy was killed by being burned down beforehand with parents whose children were victims of Freddy's pedophilic action.

That's why his face looks like a freshly baked melty cheese. Maybe Wes Craven is very fond of making the effects like that. Just like his other project that time, Swamp Thing.

My favorite is the 3rd series: Dream Warriors. Because there is this comic artist who fights as a superhero against Freddy in his own comic book. Cool... but not that cool, 'cause well... he died.

There was not much change in the theme and appearance of the first film, until the A New Nightmare movie. It was a bit annoying when I watched this movie. But apparently, Freddy's appearance in this movie matches the original Wes Craven's concept. Well, what can we say?

Why was it annoying? Because this movie "deviated" from Freddy that we knew earlier. In this movie, Freddy is a fictional character who is being filmed and this character haunts the making of this film. What ...?!?

But it was later being said that A New Nightmare was not meant to be the continuity. Well, fine with it then.

Freddy's "original" appearance back in Freddy VS Jason (2003). I was not very fond of this movie since Freddy was not as cool as he always been.

Thus the stories of Freddy Krueger entertained my childhood... until...

A Nightmare On Elm Street (Reboot / 2010)

With a new look, new cast (Jackie Earle Haley), shortened (but solid) background story, Freddy's face is also changed, no more pizza looks, but more like a grilled meat. His sense of humor is also reduced ... except maybe in the scene below.

What do you think? Which one has the best looks?
