The Interesting Facts of Megalodon

Megalodon is a monstrous shark that has always been the subject of discussion between scientists and society. Megalodon is known as a super predator because of its large size and high speed.

The prey only had a small chance to save themselves. Its dominance in the ocean is thought to last for millions of years until the sudden extinction of it. But some people still believe that megalodons are still present and are in the depths of the sea that are difficult to reach.

The Sightings

In 1928 and 1933, sightings of giant sharks were found off the coast of Rangiora, New Zealand. In 1918, anglers from Broughton Island also stated the same fact.

In the 17th century, a researcher from Denmark, named Nicholas Steno managed to get Megalodon teeth from a farmer. Nicholas Steno managed to identify the teeth of the Megalodon. He thought that the Megalodon teeth were the teeth of a dragon kept by the farmer who assumed that the dragon was a symbol of protection.

Its Habitants and Extinction

In its time, Megalodon can be found in most of the world's oceans. This is evident from the fossils found in America, Europe, Africa, New Zealand, Cuba, Jamaica, Canary Islands, Australia, Malta, Japan, the Grenadines, India, and other places.

Ironically, Megalodon was extinct 2.6 million years ago because 1/3 of the marine inhabitants who were prey to Megalodon were also extinct.
